Brendan McGuigan studied double bass at Mount Royal College in Calgary, Alberta under John Hyde and Sheila Garret. Additional studies with composer John Abram helped develop what was already a keen interest in composition and production. Since graduating in 2006, he has worked across Canada and the United States as a sideman for a variety of artists, while maintaining a prolific career as an independent composer and producer. In 2007 he was hired by Sage Theatre to write and perform music for a production of Morwyn Brebner's "Music For Contortionist". The production earned him the 2007 Betty Mitchell Award for Sound Design and Composition, and since then Brendan has worked three successful seasons in the Calgary theatre community. He has earned a total of four nominations for sound design, composition and musical direction. Brendan is currently based in Toronto, ON. |
